Composition roofing shingles (also called ASPHALT shingles) are either organic-based or fiberglass-based.

Element Smart Roofing exclusively uses fiberglass composition shingles for our customer’s roofs because fiberglass shingles are more flexible and durable than organic. Fiberglass composition shingles are made of tiny glass fibers of varying lengths and then covered with a layer of asphalt and then weather-resistant mineral granules.

Asphalt shingles are manufactured to resist external fire and flammability standards, and carry Class A, B or C fire ratings, with Class A providing the greatest fire resistance. These fire ratings are defined by nationally recognized standards and tested by independent testing agencies. In addition, many asphalt shingles carrying a “wind resistance” label indicate that they have been manufactured and tested to demonstrate acceptable resistance in high-wind locations.”

Asphalt shingles are designed to be easy to install and low maintenance for decades. Properly installed, an asphalt roof will withstand bad weather conditions keeping maintenance issues at a minimum.

Composition roofing falls into three major categories

Laminated Shingles
– These special shingles contain more than one layer of tabs to create extra thickness. They are also referred to as three-dimensional or architectural shingles because they create visual depth on a roof and impart a custom look. Laminated shingles are a favorite among builders, roofing contractors and homebuyers.

Laminates come with manufacturers’ warranties of 30, 40 and 50 years

Premium Laminate
Premium Laminate shingles are sometimes referred to as Grand Sequoia, Presidential, Paramount or Grand Canyon. They are a heavier Laminate (triple layered) and represent the absolute top of the line in Composition. They are thicker, heavier and physically larger than standard Laminates. Premium Laminate shingles often incorporate extra features like moss retardants and modified asphalts.

Manufacturers’ warranties can be as long as 50 years or Lifetime.
